Team.

  • Shana Averbach, She/Her Founder/Executive Director/Lead Therapist

Shana was born and raised in San Francisco, received her BA in Psychology from UCLA, where she gained useful research-based knowledge, an MS in Counseling from SFSU, where she was enveloped by a comprehensive spectrum of theory and practice, and gained clinical experience through community- clinic- and school-based work in the Bay Area before opening her private practice centered on supportIng the needs of women and parents.

She started walking the path towards helping others at a very young age. And like many in the helping professions, came to this work, in part, by way of her own experience working through issues of depression, anxiety, and not-good-enough-ness. She has focused on girls and women’s mental health her whole career and has been studying and tending to perinatal mental health ever since becoming a mom in 2014 (fun fact: She did her foundational training with PSI five months postpartum during baby’s 37-minute naps!). She loves supporting clients directly and mentoring the next generation of amazing therapists.

Areas of Focus: Perinatal Mental Health, Birth Trauma, High Achieving Women, Second Generation Immigrant Experience.

SOURCE of joy: Singing (loudly). Witnessing my kiddos play (quietly <—that’s a joke))

SOURCE of awe: A good starry night and all forms of nature.

SOURCE of energy: Deep connection with friends + quiet time alone.

  • Sierra Corriea, She/Her, Associate Marriage and Family Therapist Supervised by Shana Averbach, LMFT #50670

Sierra was raised in Northern California and has called San Francisco home since 2011. She always enjoyed listening to people’s stories; hearing about their passions, struggles, and inner experiences.

After years of serious dance training, she became a yoga instructor and personal trainer in her early 20’s and found that connecting one-on-one with clients and supporting them was incredibly meaningful. She completed an undergraduate degree in psychology at California State University, Long Beach, and a masters in counseling psychology at USF, receiving her clinical training in hospital and community mental health settings.

While concurrently completing graduate studies, training as a therapist, and becoming a mom, it became more and more apparent that perinatal mental health is what she feels most drawn to support. She feels honored to be by her clients' sides as they navigate the messiness of life, especially the transition into parenthood.

Areas of Focus: Mild-Moderate Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, Perinatal Mental Health, Parenthood Adjustment (Birthing and Non-Birthing Parents)

SOURCE of joy: Seeing my son smile and hearing his giggles. There’s nothing better in the whole world.

SOURCE of awe: Nature, specially the ocean.

SOURCE of energy: My community. They keep me nourished and excited.

Mission.

To provide skillful, compassionate, empowering mental health support that allows clients to live their most values-aligned lives and tap in to their inner and outer sources of joy, wisdom, and connection.

Beliefs.

We believe that…

people move towards wholeness when they feel safe, connected to others, hold a sense of meaning and purpose, and feel understood and validated,

thoughts and beliefs we have about ourselves and the world affect how we behave in our environment and in our own minds.

we start formulating these thoughts and beliefs into stories throughout our lives due to messages - both direct and indirect (and often unintentional) - we receive from the outside world, including family, peers, media, and sociocultural groups,

resisting difficult feelings and thoughts is futile and often makes them stronger.

learning to make room for them and focus on what matters most is positively life changing,

difficult emotional experiences often arise from a place of transition, lifespan development, and as responses to oppressive systems,

finding our way to healing and back to our strengths values and purpose helps us be better citizens of the world.
