Haikus on Mental Load

1

One child needs a meal,

the other a soothing hug.

2

ensuring all will be well

She will soon collapse.

3

She thinks it’s okay,

he helps so much they all say

Resentment whispers.

Yes, these poems are gendered. This represents what we see and what we know to be true in the cultural context in which we live and work. The burden of the mental load is as real as it is painful. It’s often part of what nudges folks through the door. We help to identify and give language to what’s happening and explore how to restructure the narrative and the workload. Rebalance and relief are possible. If you or a loved one is looking for therapeutic support, reach out here to get started.
